Description

The Salifert magnesium test is very straightforward and does not suffer from calcium and strontium interferences when within certain bounds. It also allows for easy and accurate testing of magnesium levels. Magnesium helps maintain the correct combination of calcium concentration and alkalinity in seawater. Therefore, proper magnesium concentration is very important for a stable marine environment with healthy inhabitants.

Magnesium is depleted by algae, the use of excessive kalkwasser and by going far beyond natural calcium and alkalinity and pH values. Magnesium additives should be used such that no ionic imbalance is created. Salifert Magnesium Test kit is an essential part of any magnesium- or any reef-supplementation regimen.

Tech Notes

Magnesium is essential for all photosynthetic organisms including corals and invertebrates with symbiotic algae. It is an essential part of chlorophyll, which is necessary for photosynthesis. Magnesium is present in natural seawater in a fairly high concentration (1300 - 1400 mg/L). Test kit is for use in marine aquariums only. It measures in sufficient accurate steps of 30 mg/L with a sharp color change. The kit can perform approximately 50 measurements.
