Description

The symbiotic relationship demonstrated by keeping an anemone and a clownfish together rates amongst the most popular and interesting displays in a tropical marine aquarium. Of all the clownfishes available to today’s hobbyist, the percula clownfish is the most recognizable and a true aquarium favorite owing to its hardiness, bold coloration and personable behavior. Likewise, the bubble tip anemone is one of the hobby’s favorite anemones, as it is the hardiest and exceedingly beautiful. Best of all, percula clownfish generally host readily in bubble tip anemones, making this combination the ideal anemone-clownfish display for the beginning aquarist.

Diet

Because the bubble tip anemone, like most anemones, relies on symbiotic algae, the aquarium must have reef-ready lighting. The system should also be at least six months old, as all anemones appreciate stable water conditions. Though mostly photosynthetic, this anemone will do best with supplemental feedings of raw table shrimp, clam, mussel, silversides, squid, and other marine based meats every few days. Pieces of marine flesh should be cut roughly to the size of the anemones mouth. The percula clownfish will gladly accept a varied diet including meaty foods such as frozen mysis shrimp, finely chopped raw shrimp, commercially-prepared preparations for herbivores, and flake and pellet food. Color enhancing foods will help this fish maintain its vibrant colors.
