Our Brown Millepora is one of the hardiest of all the Acropora family. Even with this in mind, all members of the Acropora family should be placed into well established, mature aquariums with good flow and intense halide lighting. Millepora will lose color if there are nutrients present in the water making a Protein Skimmer an absolute “must have”.
Brown Millepora is often considered to be quite dull compared to our Colored varieties. However, these corals are great additions for an aquarist new to keeping Millepora. Many of these Millepora have been known to gain their color in time depending on water quality, good flow, proper lighting and possible supplemental diet is provided. Though Millepora are predominately brown, they may have hints of colored tips or hints of possible purples, pinks or green. There may be fluorescing qualities as well.
Brown Millepora can be distinguished from any other Acropora by comparison if you look closely at the corallites. Corallites usually appear smaller, more prominent and closer together making an almost lace-like repetitive appearance.
Though these corals are mostly photosynthetic, they benefit from small meaty foods for Small Polyp Stony corals, such as cyclop-eeze or even Blue Zoo Mix once or twice a week. Can be target fed with Kent Marine’s SeaSquirt Feeder, available in the Aquarium Supplies section of this website.
