Our Brown Acropora (ak-row-pour-uh) come from shallow and deep water. All Acropora should be placed into well established, mature aquariums with good flow and intense metal halide lighting. Acropora will lose color if there are nutrients present in the water making a Protein Skimmer an absolute “must have”.
Brown Acropora is often considered to be quite dull compared to our Neon and Colored variety. However, these corals are great additions for an aquarist new to keeping acropora. Many of these Acropora have been known to gain their color in time providing water quality, flow, lighting and possible supplemental diet is provided. Though Acropora are predominately brown, they may have hints of colored tips or hints of possible purples, pinks or green. There may be fluorescing qualities as well.
Though these corals are mostly photosynthetic, they benefit from small meaty foods for Small Polyp Stony corals, such as cyclop-eeze or even Blue Zoo Mix once or twice a week. Can be target fed with Kent Marine’s SeaSquirt Feeder, available in the Aquarium Supplies section of this website.
